where can i find discount pet meds?

Online is usually just as expensive as any vet would be.
Sure, the price may be slightly lower, but you need to factor in shipping costs. The vet I worked at based it’s prices off of the prices online. And places like Petco and PetSmart are higher then these.

Your best bet is your vet. Not only are their prices better, but they have on record anything your pet has taken in case there is a reaction or the pets get sick.

Pet meds are costing me way too much money at my local pet med retailer. I have a few cats and 1 dog, and I’m constantly trying to keep them vaccinated and healthy. I care for them very much, but it is also costing me some money. Where can I go to buy pet meds at a discount?

For flea & tick control, I get mine from PetEdge.com. I have 6 dogs & their cost is the lowest I’ve found & there are discounts for bulk orders. I also get all my pet treats, shampoos, toys & clothes from them. It’s the same place PetsMart & Petco get their supplies.

My guinea pig has bald spots and and im 99 percent sure it’s mites. But every vet i find wants to charge a fifty dollar exam fee so they can say "yep, it’s mites all right- here’s a bill for another 70 dollars worth of meds." Honestly that’s ridiculous and i don’t have enough money for that, so do any of you know a way i get get out of this money-sucking trap? A discount vet, or any kind of help in the Surprise or Phoenix Arizona area?

I love my pig, i don’t want to be the kind of pet owner that lets animals suffer, but i just can’t afford over a hundred dollars on something like this.

Oh yes you can you can do what i have had to do more than once. Have a yard sale, i have had to have one more than once when a guinea pig got ill at a financial inconvenient time for me. I have to admit i have never missed any thing i thought i could never live without as i knew i did the best i could for my darling pets that mean the world to me. I guess i have a passing moment when i think how that antique would look nice in this 100 year old house but it is just passing at the best. So get your things together and have a yard sale and get your suffering pet to the vet.

Hi All! As you all know many of our fellow Americans have lost their jobs and many see no way out, but when there is life there is always hope! We must inhale it, exhale it and feel it in our bones at all times, no matter what is down the road!

My name is Ainsworth Moore and I wanted to share with you why I became a part of the USA Drug Plan program! As you know millions of Americans need help with their prescriptions and as such USA Drug Plan Program allows anyone who uses their Discount Drug Card, which is FREE to the public, to save between 10% and 85% on most drugs (Brand Name Drugs & Generic Drugs). NO Medications are excluded! Even smoking cessation medications and diabetic supplies can be obtained at greatly reduced rates! There are NO Waiting Periods or Income Verification or Qualifications! The card is also accepted at over 80% of USA Pharmacies Nationwide! One can search online for prices of the drugs they take at participating pharmacies! This means you can search for who is cheaper!

On seeing how powerful a card this is, I then decided, that I would love to help people save money on their prescriptions! The plus was, they pay you 50 cents per script each time anyone fills their prescription and when you refer other USA Drug Plan Reps, they pay you 20 cents per script, whenever the Discount Drug Cards they gave away are used! This is simply a one tier program and Not MLM!

The cost was also a major factor! It only costs $29.95 a year, with a one time $20 set up fee, for a total of $49.95 for the first year! It takes about 90 days after a card is used to get paid; however you get a monthly report on your progress! After the 90 days, monthly payments will be automatically deposited to your checking account ($25 minimum)! Now 90 days may seem long, but what is 90 days for a lifetime opportunity?

You can give away cards to clinics, hospitals, non profit, churches, hospitals, etc., but going to pharmacies would NOT be the place to leave the Discount Drug Cards!

Also, if you are lover of pets, we now offer a Pet Rx Card, that will help people save money on their pet meds. This is an awesome addition for as you know pets are family too!

If you are interested in learning more about this amazing opportunity, please contact me at 816-399-0131 and I would answer all your questions! Feel free to visit my website, by clicking HERE and if you like what you see, then why not sign up by clicking HERE! If you’re buying your pet prescriptions directly from your veterinarian, you’re probably paying way too much. The profit margins on popular drugs like Advantix, Frontline, GlycoFlex or Program are massive, meaning you’re paying a lot more than you should.

However, you don’t have to pay those high prices. Thousands of pet owners have found relief for animals by buying their pet medications through online or phone-based pharmacies that specialize in pet meds. When buying wholesale or through a discount provider, you could save hundreds of dollars every year.

But, is it a good idea? How do you find a trusted pharmacy? What happens if you require a prescription? For the answers to these questions and more, read on.

Where do I find wholesale pet prescriptions?

There are scores of companies throughout the United States selling pet prescriptions either online or over the phone. To find a quality seller, try to use a retailer that’s recommended by either your veterinarian or friends. Also, look for a seller that’s based in the U.S. or Canada and has high standards when it comes to checking for prescriptions.

What if I’m buying a drug that needs a prescription?

To buy pet medications that require a prescription, you will need to first obtain a prescription from your veterinarian and then either scan or fax the prescription to them. Many pet pharmacies also allow you to input your veterinarian’s contact information. They will then call your veterinarian directly to confirm the prescription.

If your veterinarian is averse to transferring your prescription to an online or phone provider, remind them that it is your choice and it’s important that you be able to purchase affordable pet medications. Some veterinarians will even match low, online prices, while others simply provide you with the prescription.

How do I know I’m getting quality drugs?

Again, look for sites that sell FDA-approved or EPA-approved, brand name drugs - the same ones that are sold in your veterinarian’s office. Don’t buy from an out-of-country provider that’s not monitored by federal regulations, and stick to providers that are committed to quality pet care.

What if my pet needs medication now?

If your pet needs medication right now, then you should purchase your drugs directly from the veterinarian. There’s no point in jeopardizing your pet’s health to save a few dollars. However, if your pet requires ongoing joint pain medications or heartworm drugs, buying online is a great option.

Compare Prices at Destination RX.Com or Froogle.Com

Try sites like DestinationRX.Com or Google’s Froogle.com to compare the prices of brand-name medications at multiple sites. Just type in the name of your prescription, like Cosequin or Sentinel, and you’ll get back a full list of retailers selling your prescription, along with prices.

Any responsible pet owner should first ensure that the medication being sought is actually of high quality rather than something that might either do little to help, or worse, do harm. Within that framework, seek out the best deals.

I was thinking of posting an add on Craigslist for tank cleaning fresh water only. I want to know has anyone ever done this before or paid for the service if so what was your experience? What are some pricing Ideas? Should I charge more for traveling a certain distance? Should I supply my own supplies/meds? Shoud advertise tank setup? How about Stocking? I work at a pet store and could get a discount on fish and supplies. Give me some Ideas on prices markups and services I should offer?

You may have some trouble starting this up. Most customers who use a cleaning service have marine tanks. Not to mention, most customers who are going to want a cleaning service already have one, and will be reluctant to switch. Not to mention in this current economy, there are less people looking for this kind of luxury, and would rather either do it themselves, or leave the hobby.

Your best chance would be to talk to your boss at the pet store, and make sure it’s alright. Then perhaps you can offer the service to new customers who are just getting their first tank or something like that. Your boss might not appreciate you buying fish at a discount just to resell to a customer. Perhaps try working something out where you will refer them to the store for additional fish, but they’ll get their cleaning services from you.

If it’s freshwater, and they’re not really looking to do anything major (i.e. you’re just coming over to clean some algae, the filter, a water change, and gravel vacuum) I would probably charge $20-$30, if it’s a tank under 55 gallons. Maybe $50 for anything larger. Perhaps charging $1/gallon would be a convenient way to do it. Even in a larger tank, this should only take you half an hour or so.

last night i dropped a knife and cut my cats tail. I called his vet and she said to wrap the tail and put him in a small dark room and not give him any food just water. Keep him calm and comfortable and this morning she would have to amputate his tail. I had always used this vet. My mother uses this vet for her dog. We have never had a problem with her. I had lost my job and I told her that I would not have the money to pay for the surgery today but my husbands mother said she would loan us the money but it would take about a week for the banks to transfer the money from her account to mine. I told the vet that I did have a little bit of money so I could pay that today. When I got to the office today the reception gave me a very hard time. (Although I think the orders came from the vet). The reception told me I had to pay in full or they could not do the surgery (he was in so much pain it is cruel to not do the amputation!) I told her that i spoke to the vet about the costs. So the receptionist told me OK I had to pay $50 right now. I had $60 (it is all I have until I get my unemployment again) I handed her the 60 and with an attitude she was like you have $60 and are only paying $50?! like it was an insult I told her to just take the whole 60. she gave me a receipt and told me that the surgery should only be about $160-$170 that the dr was going to try to do it discounted. but it could cost more depending what meds the dr sent home. I said OK. She then told me that I have unitl 4 pm to come up with the rest of the money (Oh and be sure to have extra or they won’t be able to send home the meds and if i don’t pay I can’t pick him up if i don’t pick him up then I’ll have to pay for each night hes there). She refused to take a post dated check. I had to call my grandmother and get the money. Is it me or is this wrong? I am very upset because my cat was in horrible pain all night because the vet wouldn’t see him emergency bc it would cost $100 just for her to go in. I understand it (although I feel horrible about it) but considering I am an established patient and always paid in full…I don’t know I am just upset with the whole situation. I understand the business aspect of it and everything but what happened to humanity?! Especially after saying she would work with me. How is making me pay in full or refusing to provide my cat care working with me? (I don’t want to sound like I expect to get something for free) Opinions please.
I assumed the vet had given her the orders to collect the monies but I do not know the receptionist has a problem with me. During a previous visit she and I were having a conversation and I said about how I didn’t like purses. she asked why I carry one then. I explained that my mother bought me a prada for x-mas so i use it. She asked me what I keep in it which kind of threw me off I told her just a little of everything. She asked me why I don’t find a vet closer to my home (the vet is about 25 miles one way.As I said we always used the vet) I explained that I trusted our vet and Bella was comfortable with her so I didn’t see a need to change it. My grandmother lives in the town (where I grew up and lived until recently) so I visit her and stuff whenever I go in to make the trip worthwhile. the vet then kept proding in my financial situation which i did not tell her. (Everyone thinks my new husband has a lot of money which he doesn’t I don’t know why they think it)
To Gman I respect what your saying but the cat was badly cut it did need a vet and I wasn’t about to mess with the tail shaving and looking at it when I am not trained. he bled very severely. I had blood on my walls and windows. I worked all night to stabilize him so it wasn’t quite a duct tape situation. 2ndly. I don’t expect to get anything for free. I just don’t appreciate being told something then having it recanted by someone else. As far as money I had money to care for my pet and I will have money again. but for the moment I am just in a rough patch.

ohhhh no .. i am flat out afraid to read … but i must ;( … brb …
_()_ lord i pray, let Bella be ok …. he is, isn’t he ??? or did you take him elsewhere ??? oh yeah, you’re in PA, isn’t much of an elsewhere, sorry i asked.

… after last night, i would have marched right outta that office and never went back … not that i’m vicious, but i sure would have taken a HUGE bite out of her business … talk, talk and more talk … what is this GREEDY persons, name??? please, please share it with us … i’m sure we can collectively dent her pocket a little more than $200 … greedy, greedy human … you don’t deserve the license you carry !!! It’s a shame you couldn’t buy a heart, too ~..~

Unfortunately, more and more "vets" are following suit … no $$, no service … should be a law against such … like a fallen human, it is against the law to refuse assistance you are capable of providing, even refusing to call 911 can land you arse in jail … ANIMALS are sooo much more valuable on soooooo many levels, why doesn’t someone fix it, already !!!

my, my, my … money, money, money ~~~ if only we could barter our needs away … what a helpful, talented, cooperative bunch we could be … BTW, one of my vets DOES barter services … might be worth looking into in your area.

I doubt i’ll ever understand this, if i cause injury to an animal, i can be held accountable, legally and financially … why doesn’t that same rule apply when the ‘professional’ refuses to administer care which in turn causes greater injury to the animal, why aren’t they held accountable ???? Anyone else see the same imbalance i do ??? How can WE fix it, any ideas ??
(from one PO’d) Granny Mouse

Hi there,
I am pet sitting a 6 month old pit bull about 35lbs. He was fixed about 2 days ago, and I have pretty much everything down - keeping quiet, small amounts of food and a tiny bit of water, even ice cubes last night, but the poor little guy is throwing up still.

He was fixed at a discount shelter clinic and adopted by the owners 1 week ago. They didn’t inform the owners to keep him quiet and no instructions about the food and water, no medication and no cone for his licking of the stitches! So of course they fed, watered and let him lick the stitches. I did tell them the rules of being fixed but… is the throwing up ok? My dog stopped after the meds wore off from being put under but this little guy threw up the tiny bit of water he had this morning and just does not seem to be very content.

Should I call my vet or just keep offering him small amounts of water periodically through the day? Again I know most of the rules but was not sure that he should still be throwing up.
My vet recommended ice cubes, slows the intake of water drinking but still gets them the water they need.

Is there any way you can call the shelter clinic? It seems to me they should not only talk to you, but give you a no-cost visit to a different vet if they were so irresponsible as to not provide detailed instructions.

Some dogs do take longer than others, and if he’s restless (your words were "not content") he may be in some kind of pain.

Another way to get water in him, If you decide to feed him, use tummy friendly stuff like rice mixed with boiled ground beef or chicken. But add more water to the rice than they call for. Another thing dogs love is a scrambled egg mixed with water and then nuked. A 35 lb dog could probably eat two of these mixed with a fair amount of water and that, too, might slow down the drinking.

It sounds like you know what you’re doing.

Here’s the story; Yesterday I saw an intact male stray border collie (a collar but no tags) running around the neighborhood. People were shooing it away and into the road where it was weaving in and out of traffic. I decided to get the dog and keep him at the house while seeking out his owner. I got dressed and drove around the neighborhood. Sure enough, he had just been hit by car. I scooped him up and took him to the vet.

His rear legs are scraped and skin, as well as his underbelly. He’s got some punctures and a lot of raw, scraped skin, but nothing was deep so there was only surface blood. The vet didn’t do an X-ray but said there seems to be no broken bones. Gave me some pain meds and antibiotics to take home.

The dog is in my hall bathroom. He lays in a corner all day. He wags his tail when he sees me and lets me pet him. He doesn’t eat the Purina One food that I feed my dogs, but he eats every kind of treat I’ve given him, from milk bones to pieces of hot dog. He’s drinking water too.

I took him out to pee twice today. He hasn’t pooped since I found him over 24 hours ago. He gets up with a little bit of coaxing, has difficulty walking on the wood floors, but hobbles OK on the carpet and grass. He doesn’t walk too far without wanting to stop and lay down. He doesn’t whine unless I try to touch or clean the scraped tissue.

His urine is a dark brown. He pees a little bit, stops for a few seconds, and then pees some more.

The reason the vet did not do such an extensive exam was because she knew it was a stray and did not see any visual signs of internal injuries. They gave me a 50% discount on the vet bill, but keep in mind that I want to help this dog but don’t necessarily have the funds for too much vet work. An X-ray would be fine, but I wanted to see if it’s normal behavior for an injured dog. The vet told me to keep watch for fresh blood. I’ve just seen the brown color so far.

Do you think this is typical behavior of a dog with this level of injury? I’m mostly concerned about the urine, which seems to have blood in it. He is not showing any signs of internal bleeding or shock. His gums are pink and his breathing and heart rate are normal. Does he just need some rest? Also, how can I get him to eat regular food?

Here’s a pic of the dog, just for the heck of it. http://img267.imageshack.us/img267/7158/collievt5.jpg

Brown blood is old blood, so the blood in the urine is not fresh and there aren’t any injuries leaking blood into his urinary tract. It sounds like he’s acting as normal as you can expect after an injury like this. Starting from his visit to the vet, he should make improvements from the level he was at. If he seems to backslide, that’s cause for concern - or if new symptoms or bright red blood in the urine or stool shows up - it’s time to call the vet.

He’ll eat regular food when he’s ready for it. You’re doing great so far, and thank you for doing this for the poor guy.

I need to get my dog spaded and my cat neutered, and I want to know if it matters who does the surgery…

My vet said some of the discount programs and shelters don’t take the best care of the animals, by rushing them in out to quick, don’t check if they can be put under anesthesia, don’t give them pain meds, and do a poor job stitching afterward.

I want to get them both done at my vet, but it is like 250$ for the spay and its only 60$ at the shelter. Will it make any difference where I take her? are the above things true?

Both my girls were spayed at the shelter and they were fine. Do what you feel is right for you and your dog. Thanks for getting your dog fixed.
